Chris Richardson, Head of Cloud Computing at SpringSource
Chris Richardson heads up cloud development at SpringSource and was previously CEO and Founder of Cloud Foundry, which SpringSource acquired in August 2009. Cloud Foundry is built on the innovative open-source Cloud Tools project and extends SpringSource's solutions for building, deploying and managing Java applications to take full advantage of the power of elastic cloud computing. Chris founded Cloud Tools in 2007 as an open source project for automating the deployment of Java and Grails applications on Amazon EC2.

Abstract: With its pay-as-you-go pricing model, Amazon EC2 enables startups to deploy Java web applications without any upfront investment in computer hardware - and allows enterprises to reduce costs and become more agile. However, because it is a cloud, some aspects of Amazon EC2 are very different than a traditional, physical computing environment. In this presentation you will learn how to use the various features of Amazon EC2 to deploy multi-tier Apache/Tomcat/MySQL applications. We will discuss which Amazon EC2 features we have found useful while developing Cloud Tools and Cloud Foundry, which are not and why.
