Craig Larman, Management and Organizational-design Consultant

 Craig Larman
Craig Larman is a management and organizational-design consultant for enterprise adoptions and large-scale product delivery with lean principles and large-scale Scrum. Reflecting this experience, he is the co-author (with Bas Vodde) of Scaling Lean & Agile Development: Thinking & Organizational Tools, and Practices for Scaling Lean & Agile Development: Large, Multisite, & Offshore Product Development with Large-Scale Scrum. Over the years, Craig has coached management and delivery groups in the adoption of large-scale Scrum (LSS) and lean development for products (usually embedded systems) each with over 1,500 people, each spanning 5-10 sites worldwide. He has served as lead coach of lean software development at Xerox, introduced agile delivery in the USA defense industry, worked as the management consultant for LSS at Nokia Siemens Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, and UBS, and is currently working with the leadership team at Computer Associates on their LSS enterprise adoption. Craig has served as chief scientist at Valtech, a consulting and outsourcing company with a division in Bangalore, where he and colleagues created “agile offshore development”, while he was living and working in India and China. He also advises Indian and Eastern European outsourcers (including Wipro, Luxoft, and others) in their agile offshore and multisite development adoptions.

Presentation: "Scaling Lean & Agile: Large, Multisite or Offshore Delivery"

Time: Wednesday 09:20 - 10:20

Location: To be announced

Abstract:
The talk explores scaling lean and agile development with Large-Scale-Scrum frameworks 1 and 2. I share some insights for large product groups (for example, 500-1500 person, multisite) while working with customers (Xerox, Alcatel-Lucent, ...), as well as lessons from my co-author Bas Vodde, who has in-depth experience with big product groups and enterprise transformations (at Nokia Networks and NSN). I present concrete practices and tips related to adoption, structure, policy, requirements, contracts, architecture and design, offshore and multisite development, coordination, and planning multi-hundred-person product groups, and more.

Presentation: "Contracts & Collaboration in Agile “Offshore” Outsourced Development"

Time: Wednesday 12:05 - 13:05

Location: St James’s Suite, Fourth Floor

Abstract:
You have — or will be required to have by your company policy — a “low-cost” outsourcing relationship with an external vendor, probably based in India, Eastern Europe, or China. How to apply Scrum and agile principles in this case? What should a commercial contract look like? What kinds of interactions should exist between the customer and supplier? Reflecting his time at Valtech, which created “agile offshore” at their center in Bangalore India, and his consulting with various outsourcers in their adoption of large-scale Scrum, Craig introduces the key ideas for successful agile offshore development.
