Biography: Kirk Pepperdine

Kirk Pepperdine works as an independent consultant specializing in the field of Java performance tuning. In addition he has authored a Performance tuning seminar that has been well received world wide. That seminar presents a performance tuning methodology that has been used to improve teams effectiveness in troubleshooting Java performance issues. Named a Java Champion in 2006, Kirk has written about performance for many publications and has spoken about performance at many conferences including Devoxx and JavaONE. He helped found the Java Performance Tuning, a site well known as a resource for performance tuning information.

Training: Java Performance Tuning from First Principles

The session focus on a performance tuning methodology that relies on a return to first principles. After an introduction to the methodology we will use it to tune an application that models a number of performance problems commonly found in real world applications. Each problem will represent an opportunity to discuss the underlying technology and introduce tooling that can help with the diagnosis. The tuning session will emphasis a methodical repetitive approach to tuning that will provide steady predictable advances in application performance. The session will include periods where those in attendance will drive the tuning process. This style interactive session always tends to be lively and thought provoking while offering members of the audience a chance to experience a better way to tune.
