- In the financial domain everything seems to be more extreme than in the average problem domain. Algorithmic trading has pushed transaction and message rates to the point which market data feeds can be seeing hundreds of thousands, and even millions, of events per second and all this needs to be handled with latencies in the microseconds. The various public scandals have elevated the importance of compliance which is taxing our ability to be agile as we must operate within ever stricter processes. The complexity of the products and underlying mathematics give rise to modelling and design challenges that we have to fight hard to distill into elegant solutions that can be implemented in this hostile environment.
