Presentation: "Managers in Scrum"

Time: Wednesday 11:00 - 12:00

Location: St James's Suite

Abstract:

Even though Scrum is becoming ever more popular, the role of management in Scrum has received limited attention. In addition, Scrum often starts as an IT/development change initiative with senior managers being largely unaware of Scrum?s potential and its impact to the enterprise. Consequently, management does not always make decisions that are congruent with Scrum, nor does it embrace the necessary changes.

This talk explores how the role of managers changes in Scrum. It helps managers to lead the introduction of Scrum acting as role models. It presents leadership principles that provide concrete guidance such as servant-leadership, empirical management, empowerment and respect, quality-first and continuous improvement. The talk discusses how these principles interrelate and how they should be applied.
