Shay Banon, GigaSpaces

 Shay Banon

Shay is Director of Technology at GigaSpaces Technologies, a leading provider of a new generation of application platforms for Java and .Net environments. He is also the founder of the Compass open source project, a unique solution enabling search capabilities into any application model. Shay started working on mission critical real time C/C++ systems, later moving to Java (and never looked back). Within the Java world, Shay has worked on a propriety implementation of a distributed rule engine(RETE) server, your typical Java based web projects, and messaging based projects within the financial industry.

Presentation: "Panel Discussion on Scalability issues"

Time: Thursday 10:30 - 11:30

Location: Shelley Room

Abstract:

What does it take to scale? This panel will bring together leading architects and solution providers in the area of performance, scalability, fault tolerance, and clustering; the panel will explore current and emerging architectures, practices, and solutions for achieving predictable performance & scalability.

The panel is moderated by Ryan Slobojan

Presentation: "Beyond the Data Grid - Designing for Actor Model, Social Networks, Scalable Search"

Time: Thursday 16:30 - 17:30

Location: Shelley Room

Abstract: In this session, Shay Bannon, Director of Technology at GigaSpaces, will discuss what's next for systems based on data grid technology. Data grids are most commonly used for pure data caching, but data grid solutions have made substantial progress and are capable of delivering much more. Shay will explore major advancements in this area and will provide design principles for implementing an Erlang-style Actor model, a scalable search engine (using Lucene), and complex data retrieval for social networks (e.g. finding friends of friends on Facebook).
