Why a Hedge Fund Built Its Own Database

Why did an alternative asset manager build its own database?  Can you over-normalise your data?  What real-world features of data create challenges?  In this talk we will look at some of the unique aspects of ArcticDB and how goes about solving some of these challenges.   We’ll also explore the practicalities of building a performant time-series datastore and why transactions, particularly the Isolation in ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation and Durability) is just not worth it.  There is another way, truly serverless.
